Beyond Breakthrough Alumni Leadership Council Works to Make a Difference
Meet a few members of our incredible Alumni Leadership Committee (ALC)! Beyond Breakthrough is fortunate to work with a handful of BPS Alumni who believe wholeheartedly in our mission to support Alumni throughout every stage of their post-Breakthrough life. Learn a little more about Musa Hakim, Chanterolyn Cooper-Campbell and Zaire Webb below, who all graduated from Breakthrough Public Schools and have gone on to do incredible things. Each has chosen to continue working with Breakthrough Alumni to help foster growth and success based on their own experiences. Read on to learn more!
Musa Hakim is a 2013 graduate of E Prep Cliffs. He went on to graduate from Cate School in 2017 and attended Case Western Reserve University, where he graduated in 2021 with a Materials Science and Engineering degree. Musa currently works with Swagelok as a materials engineer, is a member of the FutureLAND Committee, and the Director of Web3 and Internet Technology. Musa is also co-founder of Lazy Moose, a tech startup. Musa is a busy man, indeed.
Musa joined the Beyond Breakthrough Alumni Leadership Committee with the goal of providing actionable insight to the team. As the chair of the committee, he also works to enable members of the ALC to bring their own projects and passions to fruition. Musa has chosen to continue supporting Breakthrough and the Beyond Breakthrough team because he feels “it is the job of Breakthrough Alumni to begin to restructure the city of Cleveland for the better. I hope to learn from, encourage, and connect Alumni who are ready to do the same.”
Musa says “Keep on the lookout for FutureLAND happenings in October 2022 and the Moose Gang mint of the Lazy Moose NFTs in Fall of 2022.”
Chanterolyn Cooper-Campbell is also a 2013 graduate of E Prep Cliffs. She went on to attend Cleveland Early College for high school and briefly attended Eastern Michigan for graphic design. Chanterolyn is currently in transportation as a Class A CDL truck driver (that’s an 18-wheeler semi tractor trailer!) where she travels all of the lower 48 states! She has been an active member of the ALC where she works to provide advice and counsel to other Alumni with regard to careers not requiring a college degree. There are many Alumni who might not have an interest in attending college or are unable to travel that path, and Chanterolyn has led by example and found a very successful path for herself.
Chanterolyn says “I have chosen to continue to work with Breakthrough because the school had such a positive influence on my life as a student. The support I got while attending E Prep was amazing, so I’d like to help others in the same way if I can.”
Zaire Webb is a 2014 graduate of E Prep Cliffs who then graduated from Cleveland Heights High School. From there, it was on to Georgetown University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Government while holding a specific interest in childhood development and education policy. Zaire aspires to open his own non-profit and work with education policymakers in the future. Currently, he works at United Bank as a Jr. Credit Analyst
Zaire has always had a love for tutoring and assisting others in their studies. He said he “took up interest in programs like DC Reads and other social justice programs that have partnered with local elementary schools, assisting their K-2 with school work. I played sports my whole life so I participated in youth sports as a coach and referee, mentoring the next generations of athletes. I take great pride in assisting youth to realize their potential.”
As a member of the ALC, Zaire is primarily working with Breakthrough students to develop opportunities through sports. He says, “We will work together to guide the next group of athletes to a high school of their choosing, while ensuring they are properly prepared for the journey to come. Breakthrough provided a nurturing community where I was able to expand my toolkit at a young age. I am excited to help provide the same to future generations of Breakthrough students and Alumni.”
